DIVORCE
In order to obtain a divorce, also known as a dissolution of marriage, a spouse must file a Petition for Dissolution of Marriage and the other spouse has the option to file a Counter-Petition for Dissolution of Marriage.
PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The parent who is allocated parental responsibilities concerning healthcare, education, religion and extra-curricular activities is the parent who makes those major decisions. This responsibility can be shared by the parents.

The Illinois Domestic Violence Act provides that an Order of Protection can be established for up to two years.
CHILD SUPPORT
The person who pays child support is known as the obligor and the person receiving child support is known as the obligee.
